The Stanley Center for the Arts, located in Utica, New York, has a spectacular new baroque-style chandelier. And the intricate stained glass and steel design holds a secret: it’s the largest LED chandelier ever constructed.
Produced by Meyda Lighting, the LED chandelier is 35 feet across and weighs in at 7,000 pounds. The design was entirely customized to match the Moorish baroque theme of the Stanley Center, and its vivid colors are a result of its blown-glass and acrylic construction. A steel frame supports the structure of the huge chandelier, and the frame is finished in gold and bronze tones to match the Stanley Center’s motif.

The inner workings of the chandelier are just as impressive as the aesthetic design. According to Meyda, 170 Phillips Lumileds Luxian LEDs and 104 candelabra LEDs provide as much light output as 720 100-watt incandescent bulbs. And the energy savings are spectacular: a 98.5% reduction in power use compared to the incandescent equivalent.

The new chandelier will also require much less maintenance than a traditional bulb-based fixture, which means huge time savings as well as far less waste in the form of burned-out bulbs.
